Manufacturing Process

The transformers we manufacture are typically shell-type, composed of steel cores surrounding wound coils and mounted inside tanks made of hot rolled steel that are filled under vacuum with oil or another liquid with similar cooling and/or dielectric properties such as silicone or FR3.

Core & Coil Assembly:  We manufacture the cores from non-aging, grain-oriented silicon steel strip. Stresses which develop in cutting and forming the core are relieved by batch annealing in our nitrogen atmosphere ovens. We wind the coils on thermally upgraded heavy board forms to provide high mechanical strength and basic insulation to ground. Layer insulation consists of adhesive coated thermally upgraded paper of several different thicknesses. Our core/coil/frame mounting system is designed to assure a relatively stress free assembly resulting in consistently low core loss and low sound level.

Standards & Testing

Many of our products adhere to standards developed by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (ULI), the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). All our transformers are tested prior to shipment according to these or other standards specified by our customers. All testing is performed at our plant using the most modern and accurate test equipment. In addition to the routine tests, we also offer tests for: temperature rise, impulse strength, RIV, sound level, short circuit.

Enclosures

All our tanks come from outside suppliers complete and painted. They conform with our stringent Quality Assurance ISO 9001:2000 requirements for welding and painting. The tanks are either powder coated or painted with a two part epoxy primer and two part urethane finish. An intricate metal surface treatment process ensures conformity with the 1500 hour salt spray test requirements.

ISO 9001:2008

Our plant conforms with ISO 9001:2008. Progressive stages of manufacturing, assembly, testing and shipping are documented as per our Quality Assurance manual. All sub-suppliers and received components must conform to our Quality Assurance requirements. Careful screening of our suppliers, a complex production schedule and implementation of the just-in-time principle enables us to deliver our transformers on the day required.
